a birthday weekend in Hudson, New York
I know it’s immature, but I was really dreading my 26th birthday. I KNOW, 26, not that old, but I was not having it. I loved 25 and did not want to touch late twenties. I’m posting this a year later and I’m much more accepting of my 27th birthday, so stop judging.
ANYWAY, since I was so down about my birthday, Rob planned a surprise weekend getaway in Hudson, NY. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was a little skeptical when we first drove up. From the direction we entered, the town seemed a little derelict, and the lobby at Union Street Guest House was… eccentric (think taxidermy in a very little and drab house). But once we got to our suite (The Library, see picture at the bottom) I was very pleasantly surprised. As I was by the town once we were able to explore a bit.
Hudson feels like a brooklyn transplant. The town is full of ex-Williamsburg-ers who own multi function stores… like the bookstore/bar or the antique store/food truck court. And our dinner at DA|BA, an American/Scandinavian Restaurant, was delicious. Hudson is the perfect weekend escape from NYC if you like furniture/antique stores, good food and a charming small town.
